THE LAW ON EXPANDING THE LIST OF STRATEGIC ACTIVITIES HAS BEEN ADOPTED
On March 8 significant amendments were made to the Federal Law No. 57-FZ dated April 29, 2008 “Procedures for Foreign Investments in the Business Entities of Strategic Importance for Russian National Defense and State Security” (“Law No. 57-FZ”) on March 8, which regulates the procedure for foreign investment in strategic companies. The amendments will take effect 90 days after their publication, i.e., on June 7, 2026. The amendments affect both the list of strategic activities and the procedural requirementsfor foreign investors.
It should be noted that Law No. 57-FZ regulates foreign investment in strategic companies, including the definition of strategic activities, control criteria, the procedure for obtaining approval for transactions and the consequences of violation of transaction procedures. Transactions with Russian citizens who hold citizenship or a residence permit of another country, as well as with companies under their control, are also subject to regulation.
