SEVERAL ASPECTS OF CRIMINAL LAW AND PROCEDURE IN SAUDI ARABIA

This alert has been prepared to provide a brief and systematized introduction to the main aspects of criminal law in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (hereinafter referred to as the “KSA” or the “Kingdom”). It deals with the main sources of criminal law, the peculiarities of the definition of a crime, subjective and objective characteristics, the classification of crimes, as well as the specifics of criminal liability of legal persons and the principles of criminal procedure in the KSA. Attention has also been paid to such criminal procedural issues as the procedure for initiating criminal proceedings, the collection of evidence, and the system of judicial instances.
